Cinematographers speak…

“Time Out Delhi” in its issue dated December 11-24, 2009 has published interviews with noted cinematographers of Bombay cinema on their experiences shooting their favourite films. People featured are: Rajiv Menon (Bombay), Muraleedharan (Johnny Gaddaar), Hemant Chaturvedi (Company), Rajeev Ravi (Chandani Bar), Apurba K Bir (27 Down), Kartik Vijay (Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!), Anthony Dod Mantle (Slumdog Millionaire), Santosh Sivan (Terrorist), Ishwar Bidri (Hathyar), Jahangir Chowdhury (Mirch Masala), Ravi K Chandran (Dil Chahta Hai) and Govind Nihalani (Aakrosh). V K Murthy shares his experiences of working with Guru Dutt and Ashok Mehta talks about his style. There is also an article on P C Sreeram, noted cinematographer from the South. A very interesting article is on Mulchand Dedhia, Bollywood’s most important Gaffer (A gaffer is the technician who works along with cinematographers to design the lighting and put it up during shoots). Nandini Ramnath surveys the cinematography today and Suhani Singh discusses digital photography with the leading cinematographers.
